DEATH HAGS is the solo project of L.A musician Lola G. Influenced by post-punk, avant-pop and French chanson, her sound goes from hushed melodies to noise like fuzzy doom pop traveling between worlds. She has been compared to “Françoise Hardy meets Wire,” Patti Smith and Spacemen 3. Lola performed shows in the U.S. this November and toured Europe in December as DEATH HAGS. She released the single "Metal Teeth" ahead of her upcoming debut LP with Burger Records.
Precocious as hell and driven by raw desire, nothing (except maybe a hangover) is going to hold back Ex-Girlfriends. Take the Spice Girls, add a little Brooklyn, some visceral vocals and glittery-gutsy lyrics, and you’ll begin to have an idea of what this group is about. Always on the road, Ex-Girlfriends has shared the stage with bands like L.A. Witch, Thelma and the Sleaze, Birdcloud, Kino Kimino, and Sharkmuffin, and performed at SXSW and other festivals. They’re currently writing the follow-up to their debut EP, You’re Next, which the band released on Little Dickman Records.
Fruit & Flowers
Deemed one of "NYC's Hardest Working Bands" by Oh My Rockness, Fruit & Flowers spent most of 2017 on the road in support of their debut EP Drug Tax, which the band premiered exclusively on TIDAL. Ana Becker's angular, expressive guitar style and Lyzi Wakefield's gritty rhythmic backbone merge a post-punk heaviness with psychedelic warmth. Committed and charismatic front woman Caroline Yoder summons a fervent energy, surrounded by distinct, warm and refreshing three part harmonies, the bedrock of Fruit and Flowers' sound.
The solo project of Kim Talon, Kino Kimino recorded her debut album Bait Is for Sissies at Sonic Youth’s Echo Canyon West studio, with Lee Ranaldo on guitar and Steve Shelley on drums, along with Melinda Holm on bass. Talon met Ranaldo and Shelley through John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile), who produced. The album's lead single “Passion” premiered on Pitchfork, charted in the Top 10 on the FMQB Singles Chart and the debut music video premiered on Stereogum.
Following the album release, Kim formed a live band with Tarra Theissen (Sharkmuffin) and Jordyn Blakely (Stove). Known for their raucous live shows, the Brooklyn based three piece band completed five tours throughout the U.S. and U.K., including a supporting tour with Wavves. Kim is currently working on Kino Kimino's sophomore record due out Fall 2018.
Originally formed in Santiago, Chile, Christina Appel and Gonzalo Guerrero brought their hazed, dreamy sound to Brooklyn, NY, where Parrot Dream was quickly named one of the “Best New Bands” by Mute Magazine and listed amongst the “Best Indie Bands from NYC” by The Deli Magazine. Their debut EP Set Sail Someday was released on the Chilean label Beast Discos. The following year, Parrot Dream released the Side A/Side B Single "Jungle", which was featured on Spotify's undercurrents playlist. Currently, Parrot Dream is in post production on their first full length record.
Led by the duo of Uncle Jules and Grandma Ryan, Los Angeles' Send Medicine makes a woozy, psychedelic rock that combines a liberal mix of surf, folk, and blues sounds. In 2016, the band released their debut album, Scary Aquarius Daughter featuring the singles "July Eyes" and "Tall Flowers." Featured on Spotify’s Modern Psychedelia and New Indie Mix playlists, Send Medicine has released singles "Translucent" and "She Believes in the Devil" while working on their follow-up LP.
The Fantastic Plastics
Describing themselves as “The Future of The Future”, The Fantastic Plastics mix new wave, synth punk, and electro elements with Orwellian and Sci-Fi inspired lyricism. The band is a two piece live act, consisting of Miranda Plastic on Moog Synth/Theremin, and Tyson Plastic on Guitar, as well as video installations, custom costumes, and more. Following a stint in Brooklyn, where they made an impact at stages like the CMJ Music Marathon, Northside Festival, the Chris Gethard Show, and the Kotaku/io9 Cosplay Ball, The Fantastic Plastics spent the summer of 2017 on VANS Warped Tour. They will return to earth to perform at SXSW and record their follow up to their album, Devolver and EP Invasion.
